Suhad is a woman from Haifa who defines herself as Palestinian. She is not religious and she does not want to be called an Arab Israeli because she feels that it denies her identity and her history. People who define themselves as Arab Israeli are often called Whipped Cream Arabs who don't help with the anti-Israeli struggle. She claims that she is a Palistinian citizen living in Israel. She is an outspoken lawer fighing for the civil rights of Arab Israelis. She describes Israel as a country that took Palestine's land and gave the Palistinians passpots. She does not want to move out of the land becuase her roots are there.
Even at a young age, she was aware of the differences between Arabs and Jews. She attended a summer camp where she was the only Arab and there were many anti-Arab aspects in the camp, so she was given the mentality of the "other." She was offended by Hatikva and refused to sing it. She had mixed feelings of fear and hate when she heard it. Even though she is Arab, the state is Jewish; all of the holidays are Jewish, she read more Torah than Koran even at an Arab school, and everything around her was Jewish.
She does not ignore the Holocaust like some other Arab countries, but like other Arabs she commemorates al Nakba, which means "the disaster," the day that Israel was created. She was offended at learning more about Jewish history than Arab history and feels alienated by the government.
Comments:
well Israel was founded as a Jewish state.
